|I grew up in Essex and after having gained an MA in American History at Birmingham University, worked on Employment policy at what was the Post Office HQ in London before it subsequently became Royal Mail HQ. In 1987, as a result of a reorganisation, I moved to Scotland and spent over 30 years in senior HR roles across the country, as well as having the privilege of being the last Head Postmaster of Aberdeen.
Having both taken early retirement, my wife and I moved to Blairgowrie5 years ago. Both of us were keen to contribute to the community. I have been involved in a number of voluntary groups . I was heavily involved in the merger of the Ericht Trust and One Voice to become the Blairgowrie & Rattray Development Trust as an umbrella organisation for the town. I’m also involved in Blair in Bloom, Blairgowrie & Rattray Access Network, B&D Hillwalking Club, Blairgowrie Badminton Club and the Rotary Club of Blairgowrie.
I look forward to being able to represent the community in Blairgowrie & Rattray in its dealings with PKC and other public bodies. I aim to try to ensure that the community’s voice is heard on the subjects that matter to it. Also that we are able to both address problems/concerns and also influence and shape our future for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors.
I’m married with grown up children and grandchildren. My career in education was mainly the teaching of Geography and History to 14-16 year old pupils. After successfully completing a M.Phil degree I became the Headteacher of a Middle School in Whitley Bay. As a resident in Northumberland I was the Chairman of a group which secured funding for a Skills Centre in an ex-mining village. On retirement we relocated to Southern Ireland and created a large garden for wildlife . While in Ireland I also served on the Board of the National Trust for Ireland [An Taisce] for five years. We moved to Blairgowrie/Rattray in 2017 and I’m currently helping with the Food Bank and serving as a member of the Board for Archaeology Scotland. I was co-opted to the Community Council in 2019.I have always given support to the community and I have an interest in the environment, conservation and planning. I believe it is important that local views are taken into account when decisions are made by the higher authority, Perth and Kinross Council and believe that the Blairgowrie/Rattray Community Council should have a greater role in the decision making process.
I have recently retired from the Asset Finance business after 40 years in the industry. I was born in Perth and moved to Blairgowrie as I felt it was such a great place to live. I am a keen golfer and a member of Blairgowrie Golf Club where I was Captain in 2015/16. I have been married to Mary, for 44 years, a Canadian and we have a son and daughter and 3 lovely grandchildren. I am also involved with Blairgowrie Rotary and enjoy getting involved with community causes.
A resident of Rattray and Blairgowrie for over 60 years. I have spent all of my working life in the motor trade in various capacities. A former Captain in the local Boys Brigade Company for over 20 years and Chairman of the Davie Park Sports Association. As a community councillor I would like to assist in enabling all residents of Blairgowrie and Rattray to have a say in local matters.
Having grown up in Troon, Ayrshire I moved to Blairgowrie with my husband and baby girl in 2007. My time in Blairgowrie has been a really happy one and I am extremely proud to call this town my home – it has been a fantastic place to bring up our 2 children and I love the strong sense of community that I have experienced throughout the years. My career has progressed in the area of textile design, buying and graphic design and I enjoyed using my technical skills and creativity in the role as Chair of Newhill Primary School a couple of years ago. I am about to commence a professional diploma in UX Design which I hope will teach me transferable skills that could apply within this role. I look forward to helping our Community Council in their fantastic endeavour to improve and enhance our town and hope my skills and experience will be of benefit.
